Launch sunday

We are beginning our worship services on Sunday, September 13, 4:30-5:30PM! We’ll have greeters to welcome you at the front of the building (by the big red doors) and answer any question you may have.

Where and when do you gather? 4:30-5:30PM at St. Clement’s Episcopal Church building (3600 Harper Road, Clemmons NC).

What are your worship services like? We desire to hold services that are a rich expression of historic Protestant Christian worship. We believe gathered worship is the beating heart of a local church, where God by his Spirit works in and through each element of the service. We follow a simple liturgy of prayers, songs, scripture readings, a confession of sin & assurance of pardon, a sermon (about 25-30 minutes), and a weekly celebration of Communion. Each service ends with a blessing from God (a “benediction”) that sends us out for the week ahead. Services generally last about an hour. Here is an example order of worship to get a taste of our services.

What should I wear? Dress as you feel comfortable. You might see some dressed in business casual, others in shorts and a t-shirt. Our focus is celebrating life in Jesus together, not on outward appearance.

Nursery: For children 0 - 4 years a nursery is staffed during the entire service by background-checked volunteers. Nursery check-in is located downstairs on the bottom floor of the building (there will be signs to help direct you, as well as greeters ready to help). Of course, if you’d rather keep your littles in the service we welcome that too — wiggles, noises and all!

Children in worship: We’re inspired by Jesus’ posture toward children, who welcomed them with open arms and called others to have hearts of faith like they do. In our view, ‘big church’ is for everybody! We strive to be a community that values and welcomes children, understanding they will wiggle and make noise. Each week we have a brief children’s lesson during the service, and provide Sunday Bags for kids with a Jesus Storybook Bible & coloring sheets corresponding to each week’s service. In the near future we plan to hold a Kids’ Bible Class during the sermon for Pre-K - 5th Grade using The Biggest Story Bible curriculum.

I have older students; is there a place for them? Yes! We believe the entire life of our church community — from gathered worship to fellowship events — is a place for older students to grow and serve. We also partner with our sister church’s Youth Ministry (Salem Presbyterian), which holds 6th-12th grade Youth gatherings on Wednesday evenings downtown Winston-Salem. We’d love to get you connected with the other Village Pres students at Salem’s Youth Ministry.

I want to engage further than Sunday worship. What does this look like at Village Pres? Our primary means of community life and formation outside of gathered worship takes place in our Small Groups — gatherings of 10-15 people that meet in homes for fellowship, prayer, and Scripture discussion over a meal or refreshments. Small Groups are not something we have “tacked on” to our life together, but rather a primary way we stay connected. We also have various Ministry Teams for members to engage in as they seek to contribute to the life of the community. Beyond Small Groups and Ministry Teams, we hold Fellowship Gatherings throughout the year to share a meal and enjoy one another’s company.
